Depression is a condition that can leave people feeling persistently low, drained, or disconnected from things they usually enjoy. It isn’t simply “feeling sad”, it can affect energy, motivation, sleep, and daily functioning in ways that feel hard to shake.
No one should have to face depression alone, and with the right support, healing is possible. OneYou is committed to creating a space where members learn effective tools, build confidence, and experience progress at a pace that feels right for them.
TRAITS + CHALLENGES
Depression is one of the most common mental health conditions, affecting individuals of all ages and backgrounds. In fact, many people experience symptoms without realizing they’re part of a diagnosable condition.
Depression can involve persistent sadness, loss of interest, changes in sleep or appetite, difficulty concentrating, or a low sense of motivation or self-worth. It can also show up in several valid forms, including Seasonal Depression, Postpartum Depression, and Major Depressive Disorder. Recognizing the symptoms is often the first step toward getting meaningful support.
DEPRESSION + NEURODIVERSITY
Depression in neurodivergent individuals often appears as burnout, exhaustion, emotional numbness, or loss of interest in routines that once felt grounding. It can develop after long periods of masking, unmet needs, or feeling unsupported. These signs are sometimes mistaken for lack of motivation, which can delay care.
DIAGNOSING + TREATMENT
Understanding depression begins with a thoughtful, step-by-step evaluation that looks at the whole picture, not just symptoms in isolation. During this process, OneYou counselors will explore your emotional patterns, daily challenges, medical history, and the context surrounding what you’re experiencing. These conversations are designed to help you feel heard and to pinpoint what’s truly going on beneath the surface.
Effective depression treatment typically involves behavioral activation, emotion regulation techniques and sometimes medication when appropriate. These methods focus on shifting unhelpful thought patterns, building supportive routines, and re-engaging with meaningful activities. As a result, our clients notice improved mood, energy, and confidence in managing daily challenges.
Our counselors use a blend of mindfulness-based methods when caring for depression, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS).
